Several elected members including Kurunegala District MPs Jayarathna Herath, Salinda Dissanayake, T.B. Ekanayake, S.B. Navinna, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Johnston Fernando, Shantha Bandara, Nilvala Wijesinghe, Neranjan Wickramasinghe and Tharanath Basnayake and North Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera were present at the meeting today.

The protest was staged when former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was invited to participate in the lighting of the traditional oil lamp.

Despite the protest, the ceremony continued.

However, a group of participants started the protest again, against former President Chandrika Kumaratunga as she was about to leave the premises.
