Kotakethena Killer Son remanded until 24th
The 18 year old son, who was arrested for the alleged murder of his mother at Kotaketana area in Kahawatta, has been remanded until the 24th of this month.
He was remanded after being produced before Pelmadulla Acting Magistrate today.
The suspect was produced before the court yesterday, where the court issued approval to detain him for 48 hours for questioning.
The deceased woman named Chandani Swarnalatha, who is a 39 year old mother of 3 children, was reported missing on the 5th of this month.
Her husband lodged a complaint regarding her disappearance at Kahawatta Police, and her body was later recovered after 1.5 days at Kotaketana canal near their residence.
The post-mortem uncovered that she has received 6 critical cut wounds.
Police arrested the 18 year old son on the 9th of this month.
The son who is suspected in connection with the murder has remained with the victim on the day of the incident.
Later, he has confessed to the police, stating that when he asked for some money from his mother to buy a gift for his girlfriend, the mother had refused and it led to the incident.
Accordingly, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the suspect was produced before the court today, as per the order issued by the court yesterday.
