The 19 suspects arrested after a clash between JVP and Frontline Socialist Party supporters in Gannoruwa Peradeniya have been released on bail.

Later the Kandy Magistrate fixed the case to be heard on June 18th.

Police stated that the motive behind the clash that occurred last night between two groups of JVP and Frontline Socialist Party is a dispute over the ownership of a building.

Peradeniya Police stated that 4 persons belonging to both factions were hospitalized after the clash.

The Frontline Socialist Party supporters stated that a group of JVP members stormed their party office of Gorakadeniya at Gannoruwa in Peradeniya, damaged their party office and removed some of their documents as well.

However, JVP categorically rejected these allegations.

The reason for the clash between Front liners and the JVP revealed

Police stated that the motive behind the clash that occurred last night at Gannoruwa between supporters of JVP and Frontline Socialist Party is a dispute over the ownership of a building.

The Frontline Socialist Party supporters stated that a group of JVP members stormed their party office of Gorakadeniya at Gannoruwa in Peradeniya, damaged their party office and removed some of their documents as well.

Meanwhile Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that after the incident, 4 persons have been hospitalized for treatment.

At the same time, 16 Frontline Socialist Party members and 3 JVP members have been arrested.

They will be produced before the Kandy Magistrate today.

Clash b/w JVP and FSP in Peradeniya

The Front line socialist party charges that a group of JVP members stormed their party office last night situated at Gannoruwa in Kandy.

District member of the Front Line socialist party A B Gangoda stated that the JVP members had reprimanded the individuals who were present at the office.

Subsequently a clash occurred between the 2 factions.

Our news team inquired about the allegation levelled by the frontliners from JVP MP Sunil Handunththi.

He stated that he is not aware of such an incident.

Peradeniya police stated that 4 persons were hospitalised following the clash and 20 were arrested.
