Update: Fire doused at Katunayaka garment factory

The excise department has introduced a special hot line to inform regarding places where alcohol is sold illegally.

Media spokesperson of the department, Excise commissioner Prabath Jayawickrama stated that 34 persons who sold alcohol illegally were arrested yesterday.

The department also sealed a licensed tavern yesterday.

Prabath Jayawickrama stated that anyone can inform regarding illegal sale of liquor to 0112- 300- 170 hot line.

Meanwhile, the police seized 144 liquor bottles and 48 beer cans form a house belonging to a priest in Bandarawela – Nayabadda – Mariamman Kovil.

The Bandarawela police arrested the suspect for selling liquor without a licence.

Fire at Katunayake Economic Zone

A fire broke out in a garment factory this morning at the Katunayaka investment zone.

According to our correspondent the fire brigade in the investment zone was called to douse the fire.

It is also reported that the factory is destroyed to a great extent.

The cause of the fire is not yet determined.
