Monday, 13 April 2015 - 21:14

Leader of the house and minister Lakshman Kiriella says that Sri Lanka has no idea to return Katchchathivu Island to India.

Minister Kiriella who is currently on a private visit to Chennai told Indian media that the policy of the current government of Sri Lanka is to build cordial relations with India.

Tamil Nadu considers Katchchathivu as a main reason for long-standing dispute between the fishing communities of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.

Several Tamil Nadu political parties have urged the Indian Central Government to reclaim Katchchathivu Island which is located at the marine borders between India and Sri Lanka.

Katchchathivu Island was ceded to Sri Lanka by a cordial agreement between India and Sri Lanka in 1974.
