The resignation of former JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe from the party has become the controversial news today. He has stated later that he intends to form a new political party.
Amarasinghe stated that he resigned from JVP as it does not represent the aspirations of the common man.
Amarasinghe is the only JVP politburo member who survived after the party’s insurrections in 1971 and, 87 and 89.
Later he stayed abroad and built up the party thereby opening democratic path to enter mainstream politics in 1994.
Our news team contacted Somawansa Amarasinghe to comment on his political decision, as he is one of the most senior politicians in the island.
He stated that the reason for resigning from the party is due to the party’s current opinion towards winning the masses being unsatisfactory.
Therefore, he has decided to establish another political party to address the issues of the general public.
This party will not stand against the JVP, since he still believes that JVP is the only party that would establish socialism in the country.
However, at this juncture, JVP is not acting with the right understanding of the general public.
