"Electoral system needs to be amended" - UPFA

All Political Parties representing the UPFA in Parliament have reached a policy decision yesterday that the electoral system needs to be amended.

Representatives of 11 political parties representing the UPFA in Parliament met with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.

Lengthy discussions have been held regarding the proposed 19th Amendment as well the 20th Amendment which would deal with electoral reforms.

It was also decided that the amendments proposed by the Supreme Court on the 19th amendment and the changes done accordingly by the government be put to one single document and distributed among Parliamentarians.

National Organizer of the SLFP Susil Premajayantha stated that the 19th and 20th Amendment both should be brought together.

He further stated that the matters discussed will be presented at the party leaders meeting in Parliament today which is to be held on the 19th Amendment.

The debate on the 19th Amendment will be held on the 20th and 21st of this month.
