Gampaha Wickramarachchi students accuse police for assaulting

The Medical Students Union of Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute accuse that police attacked them while they were staging a demonstration in front of their institute.

A group of students from the medical students union staged a protest in front of Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute yesterday, against the administrative authority of the institute.

The Deputy Secretary of the union, Sujith Dissanayake accused that the police assaulted the students and removed them from the premises.

He also stated that they protested against the new Director of the institute who took arbitrary measures to shut down a dormitory of these students.

Our news team enquired the police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara regarding the matter.

He stated that police took measures to remove a hut built by the protesting students which blocked the pavement.

The police media spokesman also stated that the police have not assaulted them by any means.

Meanwhile, police arrested 3 persons for interrupting the duty of police officers attached to Bemmulla police post in Gampaha on the night of the 13th.

The police officers of Bemmulla post received a tip off saying that a group of persons were acting in an unruly manner in the area under the influence of alcohol.

When the police officers arrived at the location to settle the matter, the group of persons who were drunk have assaulted the police officers.
