The opposition leader wants 20th amendment along with 19th; Passing of 19th amendment is complicated; says JVP
JVP MP Vijitha Herath quoted Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva as saying he firmly demanded that the 20th Amendment to change the electoral system should be introduced together with the 19th Amendment.
Speaking to the media after the political party leaders’ meeting held in the afternoon, MP Herath said the passing of the 19th Amendment is complicated under the prevailing circumstances.
The Lanka Samasamaja Party Secretary and former Minister Tissa Vitharana stated that on the orders of the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister made available the new amendments to the 19th Amendment to the party leaders.
When contacted SLFP Media Spokesman and MP Dilan Perera said the party group meeting decided yesterday that 19th and 20th Amendments should be introduced together in parliament.
However, leader of the House and minister Lakshman Kiriella said that those MPs who do not support the 19th Amendment would be thrown into the litter bin in the political history of Sri Lanka.
