Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa left for America on January 10th, two days after the presidential election on January 8th.

However the Police Financial Crime Investigation Division filed a case against Basil Rajapaksa for allegedly misappropriating state funds including bonus money of the Divi Neguma Department, spending Divi Neguma funds for the presidential election and spending another Rs. 70 million to hold a conference.
When the case against former minister Rajapaksa was taken before the Kaduwela Magistrate on March 31st, the Magistrate ordered to the Financial Crime Division to obtain a statement from the former minister on his arrival at the airport.
Accordingly, our news team enquired senior lawyer who appeared for the former Minister U.R. de Silva whether such a statement was given to police by the former Minister on his arrival today.
He said that a statement would be given to Police Financial Crime Division tomorrow or next Thursday.
However, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that former Minister Basil Rajapaksa should make a statement to Financial Crime Division.
Meanwhile, ordinary passengers were utterly inconvenienced as the arrival terminal was closed to facilitate former minister Rajapaksa.
