The Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva said that his party is not ready to support pass the 19th Amendment to the whims of the UNP.

Addressing a media conference held in Colombo today, he said that his party is not ready to sign in blank papers.

Meanwhile, an emergency executive committee meeting of the SLFP has been convened at 5 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Sri Lanka Foundation.

Party Vice Chairman Piyasena Gamage said that the 19th Amendment would be discussed during tomorrow’s meeting.

During a previous meeting, the SLFP Central Working Committee has decided that the 19th Amendment should be moved together with the changes to the current electoral system.

Gamage said that bringing Amendments to the electoral system together with the 19th Amendment has now become complicated as the debate over the 19th Amendment Bill is scheduled for April 27th.

Minister Gamage further said that the scheduled executive committee meeting is expected to come to an agreement in order to pass the 19th Amendment first, and change the electoral system later, before calling for a general election.
