Update: Basil transferred from Prison Hospital to National Hospital
Former minister Basil Rajapaksa who was remanded yesterday has been transferred to paying wards in Colombo National Hospital today.
Hospital sources stated that former Secretary of the now defunct Economic Development Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayatilaka and former Director General of the Divi Neguma Department were also transferred from the Prison Hospital to Colombo National Hospital.
Meanwhile, former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who reported to the Bribery Commission this morning paid a visit to former minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Earlier, a protest was held in front of the Briery Commission against the summons of former Defence Secretary to the Bribery Commission.
A group of MPs including Dallas Alahapperuma, Bandula Gunawardana, S.M. Chandrasena, Roshan Ranasinghe, Jayantha Katagoda, Arundika Fernando, Uditha Lokubandara and Sarana Gunawardana had joined the protest. The protest was organized in front of the Bribery Commission in support of former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
In addition, Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, WPC members Udaya Gammanpila and Roger Seneviratne were also present at the protest.
Meanwhile, the lawyers of former Defence Secretary have requested the Bribery Commission to allocate more time for them to study the allegations against the former Defence Secretary before a statement is obtained from him.
It is reported that a statement was not recorded today as well, since the Bribery Commission granted more time for Gotabhaya’s lawyers to further study the matter.
Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa was remanded by Kaduwela Magistrate's Court last night until May 5th.
Former Secretary of the Economic Development Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayathilake and former Director General of Divi-neguma R. A. A.K. Ranawaka were also remanded till May 5th.
Lawyer of former Minister Basil Rajapakse, U R De Silva speaking to our news team stated that steps were taken to transfer the former Minister and the other 2 to the prison hospital due to poor health condition.
The Magistrate said Basil Rajapaksa was allowed to attend Parliament on April 27th and 28th.
The court made this decision when the former minister was presented before the Magistrate following extensive questioning by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division.
When former Minister Basil Rajapakse was produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate court, General Secretary of the UPFA Susil Premajayantha, MP Namal Rajapakse, Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranathunga, western provincial councillor Nimal Lansa and many MPs were present at the courts.
Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Former Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayatilake and the Former Director General of Divineguma Department R.A.K.K. Ranawaka have been arrested over allegations of financial irregularities.
Basil Rajapaksa arrived at the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division at around 11 this morning to provide a statement over the irregularities in the Divineguma Department.
Meanwhile, former Chairman of the TRC Former President’s Secretary Lalith Weerathunga was also questioned today.
