Protest in front of BC disregarding the Court Order
The former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa reported to the Bribery Commission this morning to give a statement.
His supporters including certain Buddhist monks gathered in front of the Bribery Commission to protest against the summoning of former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to the Bribery Commission.
Heated arguments were exchanged between police and the protesters as police officers explained the protesters about the court order issued banning any protest in front of the Bribery Commission.
Few minutes later, former Defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa arrived at the Bribery Commission.
A tense situation erupted at the scene as the crowd prepared to welcome the former Defence secretary.
However former Defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has not given a statement to Bribery Commission today as well.
His lawyers have requested the Bribery Commission to allocate more time for them to study the allegations against the former Defence secretary before giving a statement.
It is reported that a statement was not recorded today as well after the Bribery Commission agreed to grant more time for Gotabhaya’s lawyers to further study the matter.
A group of MPs including Dallas Alahapperuma, Bandula Gunawardana, S.M. Chandrasena, Roshan Ranasinghe, Jayantha Katagoda and Sarana Gunawardana had joined the protest which was organized in front of the Bribery Commission in support of former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
