Update: Basil is innocent; says Mahinda

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today that his brother Basil Rajapaksa is innocent.

He stated his opinion to the media after visiting former minister Rajapaksa who was sent to Colombo National Hospital after he was remanded yesterday.

Just before the former President addressed the media, a Colombo National Hospital worker who arrived at the scene said that one of his superiors attempted to prevent him from coming.

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, MPs S.M. Chandrasena and Sajin Vass Gunawardana and WPC Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga also accompanied the former president to visit Basil Rajapaksa in hospital.

Ex-President & CM visits Basil Rajapakse

Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited his younger brother, former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, at the Colombo National Hospital (CNH) a short while ago.

Basil Rajapaksa, who was taken into custody and remanded on Wednesday night, was admitted to Prison Hospital at Welikada. He was later transferred to the paying wards of the Colombo National Hospital on Yesterday.

Western Provincial (WP) Chief Minister (CM) Prasanna Ranathunga also accompanied former Presidend Mahinda Rajapakse to visit his brother.
