April 30th - May 06th declared as Wesak week

The government has declared Vesak Week from April 30th to May 6th.


Meth Sithin Guna Wadamu is the theme of the Vesak Week.


This year the state Wesak Festival will be held at Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya on May 3rd.


The sale of liquor and meat is prohibited in Supermarkets on the Wesak days and the officials are instructed to ensure that slaughter houses, bookies, casinos, nightclubs and fish and meat stalls closed on these two days.


Meanwhile, Buddhist affairs commissioner General Chandraprema Gamage request the general public not to disrespect the Buddhist flag when using it during the wesak period.
