The owner of an Aston Martin made a wreck of his Rs 3-crore car as it rammed a tree near the Italian Embassy in Chanakyapuri on Sunday evening.

The owner, Ashish Sabharwal, claimed that he tried to save a dog and this led to the accident. He escaped unhurt and no police case was registered in the incident.

Eyewitnesses told police that the driver appeared to have lost control of the car on Chandragupta Marg near the Italian Embassy while trying to save the dog. The car hit a tree before coming to a halt.

The bonnet and the front grille of the vehicle were heavily damaged. The portion above the bonnet came off and the engine too was damaged. Police reached the accident spot and a special crane was roped in to haul away the scrunched up vehicle.

The car was an Aston Martin Vantage model. It has a 4,735 cc engine that can clock a top speed of 300kmph.
