The CID to investigate Complaints against the alleged distortion of the National flag
Minister Rauff Hakeem accused Swarna Hansa Foundation in parliament today for distorting the national flag and displaying it in several meetings and protests in the last few days.
Meanwhile, the government requested the Attorney General and the IGP last Friday to investigate this incident.
The distorted flag, similar to that of the national flag does not indicate orange and green stripes which represent the minority communities in the country.
Minister Hakeem said that distorting the national flag is a serious violation of the country’s law.
Meanwhile, addressing a media conference organized by Swarna Hansa foundation, General Secretary of Sinhale Jathika Peramuna, Venerable Agulugalle Jinananda Thera said that his organization displayed the Sinhale flag.
He said that the display of Sinhale flag would not distort the national flag and it was done as a mark of respect to Venerable Wariyapola Sri Sumangala Thera.
However former minister Dallas Alahapperuma expressing his views during a media conference held last Friday, stated that he apologized regarding the matter and that such a thing should not have taken place.
Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that 3 complaints received regarding this incident have been handed over to the CID for investigation.
