The woman from Batticaloa who was sentenced to 2 years in prison for scribbling on the Mirror Wall of Sigiriya with a hairclip was released today.
Acting Commissioner General of Prisons Nishan Dhanasinghe told our news team that the woman was handed over to her parents.
At the time of her release, she was serving a prison term at Anuradhapura.
Previously her relatives submitted a bail application to the Kandy court, however, it was withdrawn by the relatives yesterday
The woman was arrested by the Archaeological officers on the 14th of February for scribbling her name and “Thank you” on the Mirror Wall in Sigiriya.
Later she was handed over to the Police and the courts, where she was sentenced to 2 years prison term.
