No legal action taken against Hambantota mayor for one year against his offence committed in 2014
Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando who was arrested for allegedly attempting to abduct a person from police custody has been remanded again until May 13.
Ambalantota Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara ordered the Ambalantota police OIC to report to the court as to why he delayed the investigation of the incident since the incident has taken place in 2014.
The Magistrate also ordered the OIC to investigate the matter and inform the details to the court during the next hearing on May 13th.
Meanwhile, a police sergeant and a constable attached to Ruwanwella Police, who neglected their duties, have been interdicted.
Two students of Ruwanwella Ratnawali College died after being hit by a private bus traveling from Hambantota to Anuradhapura last evening.
At the time, the two interdicted police officers were supposed to be on duty at the post near the school.
However, they were not present during the time of the accudent, therefore, the 2 officers were interdicted.
One of the students is currently receiving treatment at Karawanella Hospital while the other was transferred to Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.
