The statement made by Indian Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj requesting not to invade the Sri Lankan territorial waters has been strongly condemned by the political parties in Tamil Nadu.

Indian media reported that this statement will become a strong political topic in the near future.

Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj told fisher leaders who met her in New Delhi that it was time the Indian fishermen stopped fishing on the Sri Lankan side.

Leader of Tamil Nadu Patali Makkal Party Ramdaas stated that it’s the duty of the Central government to reach a bilateral agreement between the fishermen concerning the fishing at the Palk Strait.

He also criticized the statement filed by the Indian Coastal Guards at the Madras High Court stating that Tamil Nadu fishermen are invading the Sri Lankan territorial waters.

Tamil Nadu’s ruling party A.I.A.D.M.K party stated that the Bharatheeya Janatha Party government has not taken any measures regarding Tamil Nadu fishermen within the last 11 months.
