Former economic development minister Basil Rajapaksa and three others arrested in connection with a financial fraud in Divi Neguma Department were remanded again until next Thursday.

The former minister and three others were taken to the court in an ambulance.

Our correspondent stated that Kaduwela Magistrate Dhammika Hemapala inspect the four suspects inside the ambulance.

The lawyers of the suspects requested the Magistrate to allow their clients to stay in paid wards of the Colombo National Hospital.

Later the Magistrate has stated that he was unable to do so according to a new circular.

Accordingly, the former minister and three others were sent to prison hospital but they were transferred again to Colombo National Hospital.

The other three suspects in this case are former secretary of the Economic Development Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayatilaka, former Director General of the Divi Neguma Department R.K. Ranawaka and its former additional director general.

Basil Rajapakse to Kaduwela Magistrate

The Police Financial Crime Investigation Division is currently questioning former minister Johnston Fernando in connection with a financial misappropriation.

MP Johnston Fernando is being questioned for allegedly misusing 5 million 275 thousand 316 rupees by collecting goods from Lak Sathosa outlets without making any payment.

The Senior Accountant of Stock Control at the Lak Sathosa Headquarters made this complaint to the police, and following this compliant, police made submission with regard to this complaint to the Court on April 22nd.

Later the Court ordered the Police Financial Crime Investigation Division to initiate a detailed probe into this financial misappropriation.

Meanwhile former economic development minister Basil Rajapaksa has also been brought to Kaduwela Magistrate Court.

Basil Rajapaksa was arrested in connection with Divi Neguma financial fraud incident, and later he was remanded by the Kaduwela Magistrate.

Our Correspondent stated that the former minister was transported to the court from Colombo National Hospital by an ambulance.
