Basil Rajapakse further remanded

Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and three others arrested in connection with a financial fraud of Divi Neguma Department were remanded again until the 20th of this month.

The former Minister was brought to Court in an ambulance today as well.

The second suspect – Secretary of Divi Neguma Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka did not appear in court due to an illness.

Kaduwela Magistrate Dhammika Hemapala remanded all 4 suspects until the 20th of this month.

The suspects including former Minister Basil Rajapaksa were accused for several misappropriation charges including the misuse of Divi Neguma Department funds, spending its money for the recent Presidential Election and granting another Rs. 70 million to hold a conference.

The third suspect - Divi Neguma Department’s former Director R.A.K. Ranawaka and the fourth suspect - former Additional Director General of the same department Bandula Thilakasiri were also produced before the court today.
