Bail granted for 26 including Bandula, Dallas, S M and Gammanpila who protested in front of Bribery Commission disregarding a court order.
26 persons including several parliamentarians were granted bail today when they appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate for engaging in a protest disregarding a court order in front of the Bribery Commission.
10 MPs including Bandula Gunawardana, Dallas Alahapperuma and S.M. Chandrasena and Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and PC member Udaya Gammanpila are among the persons granted bail.
In addition, summons had been issued on 9 Buddhist monks ordering them to appear before the court today.
However Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera was issued summons again as he was not present in court.
The 26 suspects were issued personal bail amounting to one million rupees each and 18 out of them were also issued cash bail amounting to 10 thousand rupees each.
In addition the Magistrate ordered each suspect to report to the court registrar last Friday of each month.
At the same time, the Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered all the suspects who appeared before him today, to report to Cinnamon Garden police tomorrow and give statements.
The Magistrate also reiterated, if any suspect is engaged in any act that threatens peace would be remanded instantly.
Meanwhile, attorney-at-law Hussein Azar who was a party to this case requested the Magistrate to name former Defence Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as a suspect.
