No Army personnel for Presidential Guard

Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said that the Presidential Security Service established by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was dissolved with effect from April 30th.

He said this decision was taken according to the administrative requirements of the Defence Ministry.

Meanwhile, the army corporal who entered a meeting attended by President Maithreepala Sirisena in Angunakolapalessa, possessing a fire arm has been remanded until May 12th.

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that this particular army corporal is serving in the security unit of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The CID conducted an investigation to this incident on the directive of the IGP.

According to the investigations, the arrested corporal was attached to the commando regiment of Sri Lanka Army.
