85 houses inundate after Maadu river overflows

85 houses at Elathota, Balapitiya in Galle have been inundated after Madu Ganga overflowed following heavy showers.

The Disaster Manger Centre said that 275 persons have been affected due to this.

Meanwhile, the road from Aluthgama – Kandevihara junction to Darga town was submerged by 1 foot.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation department says that due to the torrential rains, reservoirs in Rajanganaya, Veheragala and Lunugamvehera have started to spill over.

Under the influence of Inter Tropical Convergence Zone the possibility for rain and lightning activity over the country is very high.

Heavy rain falls up to 100 mm are also expected at some places.
