Extend the tenure of the local government institutions; UPFA General Secretary requests the President

Leader of the MEP, former Minister Dinseh Gunawardana states that the President or the government do not want to hold the General Election according to a new electoral system.

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that the President has agreed to hold the next general election as per the current method.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the JVP Party Headquarters he said that discussions will continue on electoral changes.

Meanwhile, the UPFA request the President to extend the tenure of the local government institutions until the demarcation of local government institutions are gazetted and prepare for an election.

General Secretary of the UPFA, MP Susil Premajayantha pointed out that if the local government institutions are dissolved, the public will lose their democratic right.

UPFA states that the next local government election should be held according to the regulations of the new electoral system.
