Rajarata University Senior Lecturer Doctor Channa Jayasumana stated that 20 containers carrying 236 thousand liters of the weedicide called Glyphosate have reached the Colombo Port.
He revealed that this chemical was imported from Indonesia by a private company
The use of weedicide called Glyphosate has been completely banned in 4 districts which include Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala and Moneragala districts.

When our news team enquired the Media spokesman of the Customs Lesley Gamini regarding the stock of weedicide currently at the Colombo Port, he stated that he is not aware of the matter.
Our news team also tried to contact the Secretary of the Ministry of Agricluture B. Wijeratne over the telephone to enquire regarding the matter, however, our attempts became futile.
