Presidential Security breach: Corporal further remanded

The army commando who was arrested for possessing a firearm in President Maithripala Sirisena’s presence at a SLFP meeting held in Angunakolapelessa on 25 April, was further remanded till 19 May, Police Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated.

The suspect is attached to the Commando Unit and part of the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s security detail. He has accompanied former president’s son, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa to the meeting.

A certain Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) has allowed the suspect to enter into the premises without being subjected to any security check.
