May 19th is Remembrance Day: Rajitha
The Government stated that the previous title of Remembrance Day of defeating terrorism would be replaced with a new theme.
Accordingly, May 19th would be remembered as the day of Defeating Separatism, and the main commemoration ceremony will be held in Matara with the participation of the tri forces and police.
A draft bill of the 20th constitutional amendment is to be presented to the cabinet next week, including the proposals submitted by all political parties.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet appointed a subcommittee yesterday to further consider the proposals that were submitted by recognized political parties with regard to the 20th Amendment, and prepare a final report.
The relevant cabinet paper was submitted by the President.
Ministers Sarath Amunugama, S.B. Dissanayake, Lakshman Kiriella, Kabeer Hashim, Champika Ranawaka, Gayantha Karunathilaka, Rauff Hakeem, Palani Digambaram and Rishard Badi Udin have been appointed to this subcommittee which will prepare the final report.
At the same time, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial council and Democratic Governance Karu Jayasuriya informed the Cabinet that the term of office of local government institutions would not be extended.
