The CID informed the Court today it is confirmed that former minister Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa has obtained a National Identity Card and a Passport by submitting fake documents.

The CID handed over a report of all investigations, completed so far in connection with this incident, to Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya, when the case was taken before the Magistrate today.

The relevant report has been sent to the Attorney General for further instructions.

The respondent’s lawyer requested the court to relax the current bail conditions as the suspect has reported to the Court Registrar monthly without failure.

After considering the request made by the suspect’s lawyer, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to report to the Court Registrar after every three months.

The CID arrested Shashi Weerawansa on February 22nd in connection with possessing a fake diplomatic passport obtained by submitting fraudulent documents.

Later Colombo Chief Magistrate released her on a Rs. 15,000 cash bail and two personal bails amounting to Rs. 500,000 each.

The case will be taken for hearing again in September 11th.

The CID informed the Court today it is confirmed that former minister Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa has used a fake birth certificate and fake passport.

The CID handed over a report of all investigations, completed so far in connection with this incident, to Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya, when the case was taken before the Magistrate today.

The said report has been sent to the Attorney General for further instruction.

CID arrested Shashi Weerawansa on February 22nd in connection with possessing a fake diplomatic passport obtained by submitting fake documents.

Later Colombo Chief Magistrate released her on a 15 thousand rupees cash bail and two personal bails amounting to 500 thousand rupees each.

The suspect Shashi Weerawansa and former minister Wimal Weerawansa were present at Court when the case was taken for hearing.
