Hold the Election immediately - SLFP
UPFA led by the SLFP says that the demarcation of the local government bodies should be gazetted and an election must be called immediately.
The General Secretary of the UPFA and SLFP National Organizer, Susil Premajayantha stated this in response to an enquiry made by our news team.
The election cannot be held until the 2012 number 22 gazette notification which was prepared according to the Local Government Act is released.
The term of office of 234 local government institutions including Dambulla, Bandarawela and Akkaraipaththu Municipal Councils expired with effect from yesterday.
These include 30 Urban Councils including Seethawaka, Maharagama, Wattala, Kuliyapitiya and Tangalle and 201 Pradeshiya Sabhas.
Accordingly, the government is looking forward to hold elections for the entire 335 local government bodies on one single day.
However, Former Minister Susil Premajayantha reiterated that the government should immediately hold the local government election.
