Anuradhapura District organisation of the SLFP states that a proposal was passed to express their displeasure against President Maithripala Sirisena for not extending the tenure of local government bodies.

The proposal was passed during a special meeting held at the Anuradapura Buddha Jayanthi temple yesterday.

The meeting was held under the patronage of former Minister S M Chandraena who is also the chairman of the Anuradhapura District organisation of the SLFP.

The proposal was put forward by former councillor of the Mihinthale Divisional council Anil Pushpananda.

Official tenure of 3 municipal councils, 30 urban councils and 201 divisional councils came to an end on Friday.

Accordingly the administration of these bodies was taken over by the respective commissioners and secretaries.

Former Councillor Anil Pushpananada states that President as the chairman of the SLFP had the capacity to extend the official tenure of the local government bodies.
