Tamil leaders of the North commemorate those who died in the war in Mulathiv
Lamps have been lit in several areas of the North to commemorate those who died in war.
Participating in such a commemorative ceremony held at Wellamulliwaikal in Mullaitivu, Northern Provincial chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran said the lamps were lit to remember those who died in the final phase of the war.
Our correspondent stated that Deputy Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran, TNA MP Selvam Addaikalanathan and Provincial Councilor Anandi Shashidharan were also present at the ceremony.
A similar ceremony was held at Vakarai in Batticaloa as well.
The Mullaitivu Magistrate has issued an injunction prohibiting a proposed LTTE remembrance ceremony to be held in the Mullaitivu police area.
The order was issued after police filed a motion to the court.
Accordingly, holding LTTE commemorative ceremonies within the area is prohibited for 14 days with effect from today.
Meanwhile, lecturers, non academic staff and a group of students of Jaffna University lit lamps in the campus premises, and remembered those who died in war.
However Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that legal action will be taken against the organizers, if anybody holds ceremonies to commemorate terrorists within the Mullaitivu police area.
