Another discussion in Parliament about the 20th amendment to be presented to cabinet today
A member of the Cabinet Sub Committee appointed to study the 20th Amendment, minister S.B. Dissanayake said the Cabinet would approve the new draft bill to be presented to Cabinet today.
He said that the political parties those who represent in parliament and others, have agreed to pass the new bill.
A discussion on the 20th Amendment Bill is scheduled to be held this afternoon between the President and the leaders’ of political parties of parliament at the parliament complex.
A Cabinet Sub Committee comprising MPs S.B. Dissanayake, Sarath Amunugama, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rishard Badi Udin, Rauff Hakeem, Kabeer Hashim and Lakshman Kiriella was appointed to study the views of political parties with regard to the 20th Amendment.
The sub committee met on several occasions and the President also joined the meeting last Monday.
However UNP representatives have not agreed to the proposals to increase the current number of parliament seats 225 to 255.
