Northern lawyers on a strike today against protests in Jaffna Court premises
All lawyers in the Northern Province have decided to refrain from duties today against the protests that were held in Jaffna day before yesterday.
Accordingly it is said that all Jaffna, Mallaagam, Point Pedro, Chavakachcheri, Kayts, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu magistrate court lawyers had decided to refrain from duty.
Jaffna District Bar Association member lawyer K. Sudaas said that this decision had been taken at a special meeting held at the Jaffna Courts Complex yesterday.
The 130 persons who behaved in an unruly manner during the protest in Jaffna town against the rape and murder of the Pungkuduthivu school girl were remanded yesterday.
Jaffna Magistrate remanded 47 suspects until 1st of June while another 43 were remanded until June 3rd.
The rest of the suspects were remanded until June 4th.
Meanwhile police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that a peaceful condition prevails in Jaffna.
The police media spokesman said further that a proper investigation will be held with regard to the matter.
