3 Special police teams deployed to probe the murder and violent protest incident in Jaffna
3 special police teams have been deployed to probe regarding the recent rape and murder of the school girl in Jaffna as well as the violent protest which occurred thereafter.
According to the police media spokesman’s office, the CID is conducting an investigation with regard to the murder of the school girl, while Colombo Crimes Division has commenced a probe regarding the violent protest in Jaffna.
In addition, the Special Investigation Division at the Police Headquarters is conducting an investigation regarding the entire incident.
The Police media spokesman also said that a peaceful atmosphere persists in Jaffna, and that there were no protests or demonstrations staged yesterday or today in the area.
Jaffna Magistrate court issued an order on 22nd of this month banning all forms of demonstrations in Jaffna.
The order was issued against Northern provincial councillor Anandi Shashidaran and 2 other organizations.
Several protests were staged continuously following the gang rape and murder of the school girl in Punkuduthivu, Kayts.
The attack on Jaffna Court complex also took place during a demonstration which demanded to take legal action against the offenders of the murder.
130 persons who behaved in an unruly manner during the demonstration were arrested by the police and they are currently in remand.
