Killers of Kayts school girl to be produced before a special court
President Maithripala Sirisena said that the perpetrators of the rape and murder of the Kytes school girl would strictly be punished through a special Court of Justice.
He stated this during an inspection tour in Jaffna this morning.
On his arrival, the President was received by Northern Governor H.M.J.S. Palihakkara and Northern Provincial Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran.
Later the President participated in a meeting of students from 17 schools held at the Wembadi Girls School.
The students enlightened the President regarding the lack of facilities in their schools and handed over these issues in writing to the President.
In response, the President stated that a separate officer would be appointed to resolve the issues without delay.
Later the President met the parents of the murdered school girl at the Governor’s residence.
President’s Media Unit sated that President Maithripala Sirisena has conveyed his sympathies to the grieving parents of the murdered girl.
Northern Provincial Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, Deputy Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran and MP Mawai Senadhirajah were also present at the time.
Meanwhile, the Mallakam Magistrate court has issued an order prohibiting protests and protest marches in the Chunnakam Police division of Jaffna.
The order was issued after police informed the court about an imminent protest in the area against the murder of the Kytes school girl.
This restricting order has been issued to President of People’s Power organization Murugan Kumarawel, and it will be valid for 14 days from today.
A similar restricting order was issued earlier by Jaffna Magistrate on May 22nd to stop protests in Jaffna until May 29th, against Northern provincial Councilor Anandhi Sashidaran and two other organizations.
