Health Workers strike today as well; Trade Unions not a part of the strike request employees to report to duty
The trade union action the health employees of 30 grades belonging to five trade unions including the All Lanka Health Services Union have launched in hospitals island-wide continues today as well.
The trade unions said that it would go on till 6.30 a.m. tomorrow.
Reports say that routine activities of several hospitals have been further impeded as a result of this trade union action.
Yesterday too routine activities of many hospitals were carried out with the assistance of army personnel.
The Health employees launched a two-day token strike at 6.30 a.m. yesterday over 10 demands including a 3000 rupee allowance.
A group including Health office peons, attendants, laboratory workers and ward clerks have joined the strike.
Meanwhile the Health Ministry said that the substitute and casual health employees who did not report for work yesterday would be considered as having abandoned service.
In a communiqué the health ministry has released it is said that disciplinary action would be taken with regard to minor services administrators of minor services offices in hospitals.
However Chairman of the All Island Suwa sewa union Samantha Koralearachchi stated that the strike is continuing tioday as well.
However the convenor of the joint services trade union T H Somarathna requested the health workers to report for duty without inconveniencing the patients.
