Cabinet approval for the 20th amendment with opportunity for further amendments

The cabinet has given its initial approval to the 20th amendment to the constitution providing for inclusion of further amendments.

That was at the cabinet meeting held yesterday.

Political parties recently handed over to the President their proposals regarding amendments that should be made to the election system.

Subsequently the cabinet appointed a cabinet sub-committee, chaired by Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama, for studying these proposals.  

Among the other members of the cabinet sub-committee are Ministers S. B. Dissanayake, Paatalee Champika Ranawaka, Rishaad Badiudeen, Rauff Hakim, Kabeer Hasheem, Lakshman Kiriella and Palani Digambaram.

SLMC leader Minister Rauff Hakim and National Workers’ Front Leader Minister Palani Digambaram submitted several new proposals at the cabinet meeting held yesterday.

A senior Government spokesman told our news team that the cabinet gave its initial approval to the 20th amendment to the constitution providing for further amendment paying attention to those proposals.
