According to the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, during the preparation of the 2004 voters’ register, Badulla District was in short of 2 MP seats due to the lack of voters.

An awareness program - organized by the Department of Election, Badulla District Election Office and the District Secretariat - for the masses was held in Mahiyanganaya today in conjunction with the Voters Day which falls tomorrow.

Our correspondent stated that during the program, leaflets were distributed and street plays were organized to enlighten the public.

While attending an awareness program, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya encouraged everyone to get registered as voters.
