Update: CID takes over Investigations regarding Southern provincial council fisheries Ministers statement
The CID has taken over the investigation in connection with the threatening statement made against FCID by Southern Provincial Fisheries Minister D.V. Upul.
Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that stern legal action would be taken against D.V. Upul after CID concludes the relevant investigation.
Our news team contacted Southern Provincial Fisheries Minister D.V. Upul to comment regarding his controversial speech made at a meeting held in Tissamaharama recently.
He said that a distorted version of his speech has been publicized.
Later, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that police is ready to initiate investigations in connection with the new speech by D.V. Upul.
However, he said that investigation with regard to D.V. Upul’s speech at Tissamaharama has already been handed over to CID.

I did not threaten the police; says Southern province fisheries Minister D V Upul
Southern Province Fisheries Minister D. A. Upul says that he did not threaten the police.
The Provincial Minister said so in response to a query posed by our news team with regard to the statement he had made about the police FCID at a meeting held at Thissamahaaraama.
Police Media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said yesterday that the above statement of the Provincial Minister had been a threat levelled at the police.
The police media spokesman said that even by now an investigation was being held regarding the matter.
However Southern Province Fisheries Minister D. A. Upul says that he did not threaten the police and that speech he delivered at the meeting held in Tissamahaaraama had been misrepresented.
The Provincial Minister said that he was prepared to withstand if legal action was taken against his statement.
