Uva PC Councillor Chamara Sampath files a petition challenging an Appeal Court decision

A petition was filed at the Supreme Court today, challenging an Appeal Court decision of rejecting to issue a restriction order on the appointment of Harin Fernando as the Uva Provincial Chief Minister.

The petition was filed by Uva Provincial Councilor Chamara Sampath Dasanayake.

A group of UPFA Uva Provincial Councilors led by party General Secretary Susil Premajayantha filed a petition earlier, challenging the removal of former Chief Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa and replacing his post with Harin Fernando.

A panel of 3 Court of Appeal Judges chaired by Justice Vijith Malalgoda who considered the petition on May 21st rejected issuing a restriction order but decided to hear the petition on June 19th.

Chamara Sampath Dasanayake, in his petition today has named 40 persons, including Uva Provincial Council Chief Minister Harin Fernando as respondents.
