Although the 20th Amendment was approved by the Cabinet, the UPFA MPs group meeting has decided that the final decision over the 20th Amendment should be taken by parliament.

The UPFA MPs group meeting was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s Secretariat this morning.

The President has also asked the UPFA MPs to support the 20th Amendment, in the same manner in which they support the 19th Amendment.

Expressing his views to our news team, Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera quoted the President as saying that the disputes over the number of parliament seats, if any, could be rectified later through amendments.

Meanwhile, the UNP parliamentary group met under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Prime Minister’s office in parliament today.

The UNP MPs also had a detailed discussion on the 20th Amendment.

Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa said that during the UNP MPs group meeting, it was decided to take a flexible stance over the 20th amendment.
