Basil Rajapaske further remanded until 18th of June
Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and three other officials, who were arrested on charges of misappropriation of Divi Neguma funds, have been further remanded until June 18th by the Kaduwala Magistrate’s Court.
The four suspects were further remanded today when the case against them were taken before Kaduwela Magistrate Dhammika Ganepola.
In addition to the former minister, other suspects remanded today are former secretary of now defunct Economic Development ministry Dr. Nihal Jayatillaka, former Director R.K.K.A. Ranawaka and former additional director Bandula Tilakasiri of the Divi Neguma Department.
Misappropriation of Divi Neguma Department’s bonus money, spending of Divi Neguma Department’s funds on the recent Presidential election and spending of 70 million rupees to hold a conference are among the charges made against the suspects.
Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa was arrested in connection with the charges on April 22nd.
Meanwhile lawyers of former minister Basil Rajapaksa told our news team that the bail application for Basil Rajapaksa would be considered again next Monday.
At the same time, bail applications for the other three suspects would be considered by the Colombo Magistrate tomorrow.
