The CID recorded a statement from former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son MP Namal Rajapaksa for over 4 hours.   

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that statements were recorded from MP Rajapaksa over 2 incidents.

The first statement was recorded on the incident about an army corporal attached to Namal Rajapaksa’s security unit, bringing a firearm to the meeting where the President was scheduled to address in Angunukolapalassa.

Secondly, a statement was recorded from MP Rajapaksa about Southern Provincial Fisheries Minister D.V. Upul making a threatening speech on the FCID.

Meanwhile, the army corporal who brought a firearm to the Angunukolapalassa meeting, the ASP and another police sergeant attached to the President’s Security Division have been released on bail.

However, Southern Provincial Fisheries Minister D.V. Upul who made a threatening speech has been remanded until June 15th.

Namal Rajapakse summoned to CID

MP Namal Rajapaksa reported to CID this morning to give a statement.

MP Rajapaksa tweeted on Monday that he had been summoned to CID today.

In his twitter message, Namal Rajapaksa stated that he was not informed the reason why he was summoned to the CID.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that MP Namal Rajapaksa has been summoned to record a statement with regard to one of his security guards, bringing a firearm to a meeting where the President was scheduled to address in Angunakolapalassa.

Namal Rajapakse arrives at CID

UPFA Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa arrived at the Crime Investigation Division a short while ago to give a statement.

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said Namal Rajapaksa is currently giving a statement on the security breach at a meeting in Angunakolapelessa.
