Supreme court dismisses Fonseka's petition

The Supreme Court rejected the petition that had requested to order parliament secretary general to restore the parliament seat for Democratic Party leader Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.

The Fundamental rights petition filed by Field Marshal Fonseka’s secretary Senaka de Silva had stated that Fonseka should be reinstated as a MP after he was pardoned by President Maithreepala Sirisena.

The attorney general, who filed preliminary objections, stated that Fonseka’s FR petition has no legal basis whatsoever.

Accordingly, the panel of Supreme Court Judges chaired by Chief Justice K Sripavan rejected Fonseka’s FR petition without granting leave for hearings.
