Foreign Affairs Minister meets the Japanese Premier
Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo yesterday.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, talks were held between the Foreign Affairs Minister and the Japanese Prime Minister at the latter’s office.
This was the first tour made by the Foreign Minister to Japan, after the new government came into power.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera is also due to address a summit in Tokyo today, upon an invitation extended by his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida.
Delegates from the Japanese government as well as international organizations will participate in the summit.
The summit is organized on building peace among Asian countries, national reconciliation and democracy.
The Foreign Affairs Minister is due to address the summit providing facts regarding Sri Lanka’s reconciliation and democratization process.
In an interview with the NHK channel, foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera stated that the country’s economy which was previously depending on China will be reevaluated.
The Minister added that measures will be taken to build close relations with other countries.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera who arrived at Japan on the 17th of this month will conclude his tour today.
