Wife died due to mistake in surgery at Ragama Hospital – accuses Husband

A resident of Ragama area accuses that his wife lost her life due to a surgical error which occurred at Ragama Hospital.

He stated that his wife was admitted to the hospital on 5th of June, to remove a cyst on the womb through surgery.

Following the surgery, her condition became critical and she was later admitted to the ICU.

At that time the doctors have informed that she should undergo another surgery.

Accordingly, she underwent a surgery for the second time on 14th of June.

Following the surgery, she was again admitted to the ICU and on the 17th she passed away.

The deceased person is a 39 year old mother of 2 children from Kudagammana in Divulapitiya.

The Husband accuses that her death was caused due to a germ which entered the body through the incision.  

When we enquired the Director of Ragama Hospital doctor U.M.M. Samaranayake regarding the accusation, he rejected the statement and added that the death was not caused by a surgical error.

He added that the surgery was conducted by specialists, and she was observed by over 20 doctors and professors, in addition, they made all efforts to save her life till the last moment.
