50 sand miners along with 52 vehicles arrested inside Walawe forest reserve

Police arrested 52 persons who were involved in illegal sand mining at Pallerota, Hungama in Ambalantota and seized 51 tippers as well as an excavator machine early this morning.

According to police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara, Police also seized 153 cubes of sand.

Initial investigations have revealed that they have been continuing the illegal sand mining for a long period at a forest reserve near Walawe river.
