The President and the former President did not meet at the Speakers official residence: Media units of both Presidents confirm
The President Media Unit refuted certain media reports citing President Maithripala Sirisena met former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Speaker’s official residence yesterday.
This was also confirmed by former President’s Media coordinator Rohan Weliwita.
Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has told at a party held at Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga’s residence last night that his political journey would be decided by the forces that rallied around him.
He has also told that it is now too late to withdraw from contesting the forthcoming election.
The former President has further stated that the five great forces built the SLFP, not to take the UNP in its lap and mollycoddle.
It is reported that 87 MPs including parliamentarians from 11 political parties attended the party at Prasanna Ranatunga’s residence.
Among the participants were: MPs Douglas Devananda, Prabha Ganeshan, Arumugam Thondaman, Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan, Y.G.Pathmasiri, Tissa Vitharana, Dinesh Gunawardana, Wimal Weerawansa and Wasudeva Nanayakkara.
Meanwhile, former minister Basil Rajapaksa who left the hospital yesterday reported to be preparing to join the organizing and propaganda activities of the SLFP, targeting the forthcoming general election.
